Boss preparation: identify the failure before changing your build

A failed attempt can come from an unfamiliar phase, a control problem or a poor fit between an action and its opening. Record which one happened before changing several pieces of equipment at once.

A dated example: Golden Star

Patch 2.00.00 split the Golden Star battle into distinct phases and introduced phase-specific attack patterns. A pre-update video can therefore show a different sequence. Match the video date and build before treating its timing as a current instruction.

This is a documented patch change, not a new frame-by-frame walkthrough. The former generic boss cards and blanket claims about rewards, elemental counters and total boss counts have been removed from this index. Individual legacy boss pages still need their own evidence review.

Use one attempt to answer one question

  1. Identify the exact encounter, phase and action that caused the failure.
  2. For the next attempt, change one response or one equipment choice.
  3. Note whether the action was available, whether it connected and what prevented recovery.
  4. If the same observation repeats, use it to choose the next change instead of swapping the entire build.

We no longer claim that parrying beats dodging for every boss or that a fixed elemental counter works across the roster. The useful result is a specific observation tied to your encounter.

A compact attempt record

FieldExample of what to record
Build / characterYour displayed version and current character.
Encounter / phaseThe name shown by the game and when the problem occurs.
TriggerThe visible action immediately before the failure.
One changeThe response or equipment choice being compared.
Observed resultWhat happened, without assuming an unseen damage formula.

When it may be a control or progression issue

If a control does not respond outside the fight either, separate that from learning the encounter. Compare your bindings and the current Known Issues notice. For a persistent bug, use official support with the sequence needed to reproduce it.

For equipment comparisons use the loadout checklist. For missing consumables see crafting checks. For the dated changes behind this page, open the patch tracker. This revision does not claim in-game testing of every boss.
